What Causes Low Testosterone

Low testosterone, also known as low T or testosterone deficiency, can be caused by several factors. Natural aging is the most common cause, as testosterone levels gradually decline with age. Other causes include hormonal imbalances, testicular injury or disease, and medical conditions affecting the pituitary gland, which regulates hormone production. Lifestyle factors such as chronic stress, obesity, poor sleep, and lack of physical activity can also lower testosterone levels. Additionally, certain medications, excessive alcohol consumption, drug use, and nutrient deficiencies (like zinc and vitamin D) can contribute to low testosterone. Genetics and underlying health conditions, such as diabetes or metabolic syndrome, may also play a role.
